my dearest ben,
sometimes, i wonder how many little things had to fall into place for me to find you. how many roads we had to take, how many strangers we had to pass, how many versions of ourselves we had to become before the universe finally allowed our paths to cross. perhaps there were a thousand other ways our stories could have unfolded, a thousand different turns that could have led us elsewhere, and yet, somehow, here we are. you and me, six months into a story i never knew i was waiting for.
i think there is something terribly beautiful about the idea of a red thread, one that ties two souls together long before they ever know the other's name. they say it may stretch and tangle, that it may lead its keepers through distances they never imagined having to cross, but it will never truly break. and if there is any truth in that old tale, then perhaps this is what our little story has been all along: two hearts, finding their way through the world, unknowingly carrying the same thread until the day it finally brought them home.
you came into my life and made the ordinary feel like something worth writing poetry about. you taught me that love does not always have to arrive like a grand, earth-shattering revelation. sometimes, it comes quietly. it comes in little conversations, in familiar laughter, in the comfort of being understood without having to explain every little thing. sometimes, it looks like a person whose presence makes the world feel a little less frightening, whose love makes you want to stay a little longer, and whose name begins to feel like a place you have known for much longer than you actually have.
six months, bebe. six months of having you in my life, and i still find myself wondering how i got so lucky. six months of learning the little things about you, of collecting moments that may seem insignificant to the rest of the world but have become some of my most treasured possessions. six months of finding new reasons to love you in the smallest, most unsuspecting places. and if you ask me whether the wonder has faded, whether the feeling has grown ordinary, my answer will always be no. if anything, i have only come to understand more deeply how extraordinary it is to be able to love you, and to be loved by you in return.
i know that a red thread is not a promise that the road will always be easy. fate may bring two people together, but it is the love they choose, day after day, that teaches them how to stay. and that is what i cherish most about us, bebe. not simply the possibility that we were meant to meet, but the fact that we keep making room for each other in our lives. through changing days, through imperfect moments, through all the little things we are still learning about ourselves and one another. i love that our story is not made beautiful by being perfect, but by being ours.
if the universe truly tied a little red thread around us, then i hope you know that i would gladly follow it through every winding road, every unfamiliar season, and every version of the future that waits for us. not because i believe that loving you will always be effortless, but because, knowing what i know now, i would still want to find you. i would still want the silly conversations, the quiet nights, the laughter that catches us off guard, the days when we have nothing extraordinary to say but still want to hear each other's voices. i would want all the little, human, imperfect pieces of loving you.
and if there are a thousand lifetimes waiting beyond this one, i hope the thread finds us in every single one of them. perhaps we will meet beneath a different sky, with different names and different stories to tell. perhaps we will take a little longer to recognize each other. but i hope that, somewhere in the middle of all that unfamiliarity, something in me will still turn toward you. i hope i will find you the way flowers find the sunlight, the way rivers find their way to the sea, as though my heart has always carried a quiet memory of where it belongs.
happy six months, bebe. thank you for being the person at the other end of this little red thread, for making these six months a part of my life i will always hold close, and for giving me something so lovely to look forward to. i don't know every place this thread will lead us, and i don't need to know just yet. for now, i am happy to be here, holding your hand as we find out together.
i don't know what forever will look like for us, bebe, but i know that if life ever asks me to choose again, i will always hope to find you waiting at the end of that little red thread. and perhaps that is all the certainty my heart will ever need: the knowledge that, out of all the lives i could have lived and all the people i could have loved, i get to love you in this one.
somewhere between fate and forever, i found you. and if i am ever given the choice, in this life or any other, i will keep finding my way back to you.
— your mythrae, always.
